A Timely Acrostic

Happy Tuesday! Americans are busy this week with Thanksgiving Day preparations...turkey, potatoes, rolls, vegetables, desserts...but in the midst of all these activities, I wanted to take a moment and write another Thanksgiving acrostic. This one, from 2009, reminded me of when I was teaching full time in a Christian school. Times are different now since I do not have a classroom of 28 or more...but the activities are still important, and they make good memories. :)

Thank You!

Thank you, dear blog friends, for all your kind comments yesterday. We all know that Diane is in Heaven, but we're still in a state of shock. Questions of "Why her, Lord?" and "Lord, what are you doing?" are running through my mind...but then statements of "Lord, You are in control" and "Lord, I will trust You" also run through my head...I guess it's pretty normal to have all these questions, and some of them I know will not be answered here on Earth.

The following verses are ones that are familiar to me. My Oldest Daughter is learning them in her Bible class, so every morning, she recites them and it's been a blessing to me. I'm amazed at how God knows exactly what we need, and how He uses His Word to comfort us.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18

13. But I would  not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Today, I am abiding in God's unchanging, infallible, comforting Word!

On a side note, we were spending time together as a family yesterday, so I did not get to visit any of my favorite blogs...I have a lot of catching up to do today!

Success~

Good morning! Thank you for your prayers yesterday for Mom's surgery. Although the surgeon was two hours late in performing her surgery, Mom came through it just fine. She told me that she really didn't know the surgeon was finished until he was wrapping up her hand.

My biggest concern with the surgeon being two hours late was this~Mom is an insulin-dependent diabetic, hadn't eaten since before midnight on Sunday night, and didn't have the surgery until 1:30 yesterday afternoon. I am so thankful that she did just fine...her blood sugar numbers were good, and she ate well at dinner.

Speaking of dinner, the casserole turned out good, and I was able to make two pans of it...one for last night, and one for Mom and Dad tonight.  :) Poppy seed chicken casserole has to be one of the easiest, yummiest recipes in my file...I'm hungry now!

She goes back next Tuesday and the doctor will take the bandages off. Then the following Tuesday, he will remove the stitches. Then, about three or four weeks from now, she will have the same surgery done on  her right wrist. Thank you again for praying for her. I hope you have a great day!

Giving Thanks Week

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful Monday, and are looking forward to Thanksgiving! Check out this blog for some great Thanksgiving ideas!

On Sunday, our pastor reminded us that we could take just about forever thanking God for His physical blessings to us...however, how often do we remember to thank God for Who He is?

So, today, I am thankful that God is my protection. These verses from Psalm 91 are a blessing to me.

v. 1~He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

v. 2~I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

v. 4~He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

v. 11~For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Aren't you thankful for God's Word?

THANKSGIVING Acrostic

First, let me say thank you for your kind comments about my weight loss. It's a journey that Hubbie and I are on...but it's so much easier with a partner! Now, on to my post.

When I was teaching elementary school, I loved November, probably more than any other month! There were so many great Thanksgiving ideas and activities for my students. I never had enough time to fit them all in! :)

One of my very favorite things to do the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving, was to have the kids write down their Thanksgiving acrostic. So, during this wonderful season, I thought I would share mine with you.

I am thankful for:

A~ apple butter :)
N~ Nanny~my mom
K~ Krispy Kreme donuts~yummy
S~ sweet hubbie and children
G~ God's faithfulness~new every morning
I~ Indians who befriended the Pilgrims

N~ nativity scenes
G~ gratitude~especially when my children show it

So, that's my Thanksgiving acrostic. Today, we have a doctor visit, library visit, and a birthday party for a 5 year old boy. Plus, we have to fit school in there somewhere...Hmmm...I guess it's time to get busy. ;) Have a wonderful Thankful Thursday! I appreciate you stopping by today.

Two Items

First, thank you to all our veterans-past and present! What a blessing to live in America! We are so privileged to have the finest military force in the world! Thank you, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, and Coast Guard veterans! My grandfather fought in WW II, my dad was in the Air Force for several years, my brother was in the Marine Corps in the 1990's, and my father-in-law was in the Coast Guard for many years, and in the CG Reserve up until 2002. What a rich heritage of military service my family has!

Second, we have a birthday girl in the house! Our youngest daughter is one year old today! Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl! We love you!
