When I was growing up, I went to a Christian school. I am so thankful for the foundation that was laid during those years. I was influenced at school to go to a Christian college (which I did), and I had so many great teachers! They inspired me to become a teacher myself. One of my favorite teachers was my third grade teacher, Mrs. Meyers. Such a sweet lady and I have such good memories of her. I wish I knew where she was now.
When I was a junior or senior, my principal encouraged me to major in education when I went to college. I started out as a History Education major with an English Education minor. I did not enjoy it at all so I changed majors to Elementary Education, with a History minor. I loved it!
I graduated from college in May, 1996, and in the fall, I began teaching second grade. I taught second grade for four years, took a year off for the birth of our oldest daughter, then went back to teaching. I taught third grade for three years~I think third graders are wonderful! They are independent enough to not need you to tie their shoes, wipe their noses, etc., but they still love to give and receive hugs!
After those teaching years, I stayed home with our children.
It never crossed my mind during those years of being a schoolteacher that I would ever homeschool, but that is what I find myself doing...and I wouldn't trade these days for a million dollars! (maybe two million...just kidding!) Yes, there are "those days", but the joys of having the children at home far outweigh the "days" when I struggle...So, for this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful that God has given Hubbie a good job so that I do not have to work outside our home. Which, in turn, allows us the opportunity to school our children at home. I do not know how long we will homeschool, but I treasure the time I have...

What beautiful blessings you have there :)
(((hugs))) Susie
I can say from my heart that you are a wonderful teacher - with a true God-given talent for teaching and nurturing students. What a blessing that you had folks in your life that recognized that ability and encouraged you...and that were sensitive to listen.
God has used you more than certainly you realize in the lives of hundreds of students...including my sweet little "orange-headed" second grader! I will always count that year and your influence on Tyler as a tremendous blessing!!
Absolutely LOVE those pictures of your own little students (where does the time go?? She is sitting in a booster!!:) ) Hugs to all of you - Jennifer
What a thankful post! You children are beautiful. You will not regret a moment either as your children grow...my baby is a senior...we have had beautiful school days...hard days too but the good far outweighs the bad.
And that whole socializing thing...we debunked it a LONG time ago...
Just enjoy every single moment and watch what the Lord can do.
Blessings,
Joyce Marie
All I ever wanted to be was a stay-at-home mom. It didn't work out that way, but I'm always glad to hear about the stories of those who are moms making sacrifices to do so. Thanks for sharing!
What a blessing to be with your precious little ones and see them learn! I have had a very similar backgroud to yours --- went to a Christian school and majored in elementary education in college as well. After taking a couple of years off from school (I had started a new job which was/is very demanding, so not much time for classes,) I decided to forgo my student teaching. Because of that, my BA is actually a "distributive" degree in Education and English. What a blessing it is to have a background in education though! I'm sure that it helps out immensely for you in homeschooling! :-) Thanks so much for sharing this post! Hope you and your family have a blessed weekend! :-)
