Near

It's been almost a month since I shared a hymn, and this is a beautiful song that tells exactly where I want to be~every day~no matter my circumstances! I am so thankful today that God has given us music to enjoy...

Near the Cross
by Fanny J. Crosby

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain—
Free to all, a healing stream—
Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.

Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and Mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.

Refrain

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.

Refrain

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.

Refrain

Thankful for Salvation through the Work of Jesus Christ AND you and our family.

Thankful for air to breath, water to drink, the earth to walk on.

Love,

thanks for the reminders that there is such comfort in hymns!! So often I am struck with a song at church and then have to come home and pull out the hymnal to really think about the words more.
I am thankful for this blog!! You are an encouragement to me!

I love the old hymns and I am glad that our church still sings the old hymns with a dash of contemporary here and there. The old hymns words are so inspired (not that the new hymns aren't) but when I really listen to the words I am drawn toward Him. Fanny Crosby is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing, Donna!
